The harder you play, the further the filter opens. Soft notes purr and hard ones quack, so bass lines come out rubbery and bouncing. Run keys or rhythm guitar through it and they pick up the same strut. That bubble has been all over funk and disco records since the '70s, and it still moves a dance floor.
